In Short Esgrima is the Spanish word for fencing, a combat sport that features swordplay and blade work. Esgrima traces it's roots to the development of swordsmanship and for self defense.
Kali, as well as Escrima Arnis, Silat, is a general term used to describe the various bladed, impact and empty handed Martial Arts cultures in South East Asia and Indonesia.
Quick History, Spain looked to expand it's reach and Colonizing agenda across the "New World" spanning from the East Indies, Western Africa, The West Indies, and the Americas a mixing of these diverse Martial Arts cultures began to emerge. These influences along with Indian/ Silambam and Chinese Kuntao and Shaolin Quan Fa, Muslim warriors and other indigenous groups began the shaping of this exciting formidable and diverse art we call Lucayos Esgrima! The name Lucayos (Island People)pays homage to the Island Peoples whose brilliance and resilience shaped this art.
